Context and Rationale

Limpopo Province, known for its rich agricultural heritage, is increasingly affected by soil degradation, climate variability and unsustainable farming practices. These challenges threaten food security, farmer livelihoods and ecological balance. Regenerative agriculture presents a viable solution—restoring soil health, enhancing local biodiversity, building climate resilience and improving food security. It also opens pathways to organic certification, improved market access and superior economic gains.

Programme Overview

Avo Vision Foundation is launching a targeted initiative to build the capacity of smallholder crop farmers in the villages of Ga-Kibi, Limpopo. The programme will focus on regenerative agricultural techniques, organic farming principles and market readiness strategies for current backyard and small holder farmers. The goal is to support farmers in transitioning from conventional methods to sustainable, inclusive and economically viable production systems, leveraging existing value chains and markets available.

Objectives

  • Train and empower 25 smallholder crop farmers in regenerative techniques such as cover cropping, composting, minimal tillage, agroforestry, planting and integrated pest management.
  • Promote sustainable land use, improved soil health and enhanced biodiversity.
  • Strengthen productivity, livelihoods and climate resilience through diversified cropping systems.
  • Provide structured aftercare support including mentorship, field visits and technical resources.
  • Monitor soil health, crop yields and farmer feedback to refine programme delivery and demonstrate impact.
  • Support with access to markets or support currently existing value chains
